God is Giving

All my life I was taught to love God and to trust in God. I was baptized a Roman Catholic, received communion, practiced penance, initiated through confirmation, and displayed my love for my wife through holy matrimony in the church. To this day, I still believe that God brought Krystal and I together because I cannot imagine anyone more suitable to my beliefs, my lifestyle, and also be able to tolerate my personality. We did not meet by chance; God helped us find each other.

After 2 years of marriage and 8 years of knowing each other, I begged Krystal for us to start a family because it was my dream to become father. It took a lot of convincing because she just started her career as a registered nurse and she wanted the freedom of being independent.

After being physically separated for 9 months for deployment with the U.S. Coast Guard, I promised her a trip of her dreams through Europe. This was our true honeymoon. We travelled through Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and Czech Republic experiencing the vast cultures and visiting historic icons. We made it part of our itinerary to visit many churches and cathedrals to pay our respects to God and to pray to conceive a healthy baby. We visited the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, St. Mark’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Sacre Coeur Basilica. We both agreed that it did not matter if God gave us a boy or girl, all we wished for was a healthy baby.

Upon our return from our fairy tale trip, we were thrilled to find out that Krystal was pregnant! I was so excited I spoiled the mother-of-my-child with love and care. I read to the baby, prayed to the baby, and sang to the baby in the womb as if he was able to hear me. I wanted him to recognize my voice the day he came out to greet me.

Krystal was Wonder Woman. She was able to fight through her extreme fatigue and nausea to perform her duties as a nurse in the operating room. I know I was annoying her because I was so excited to prepare for the baby, but she was too exhausted to do anything.

As the days approached the delivery date, we felt anxious to become fist time parents. We read baby books, took baby classes, and had the nursery ready. I felt confident that we would be the best parents ever.

On Father’s Day, Sunday June 15, 2014 2:35 am, God blessed us with baby Noah in our lives. The 7-lb 10.2-oz and 21-inch miracle was healthy as can be. I felt a sense of euphoria the first time I held him in my arms. It was an incredible experience filled with love, joy and tears. When Noah was reunited with Krystal, my life felt complete. We thanked God for answering our prayer and promised him to be the best parents we can be.
